#10 - Padme Skywalker (Star Wars) - Natalie Portman
“Look Man! I only need to know one thing: where they are”
PFC J. Vasquez played by Jenette Goldstein is the type of Marine that you want on your squad should there be an Alien invasion. She disobeyed a direct order when her superiors asked her and a company of other Marines to enter an Alien hive unarmed and lovers of Ridley Scott’s Aliens can probably remember her battle cry of “LET’S ROCK!” when the shit hit the fan. Although Ripley has a ton of inner strength, Vasquez was strong in every aspect of her character.
While the butch look of Vasquez will not earn her any points on a guy’s top 10 list, she made ours for being a strong Latina in a movie that was 99% white male and managing to be a tomboy while holding down a strong-silent boyfriend the whole time (yup she had a man - Drake, go watch Aliens again). Vasquez took her own life with her man willing to go with her after she was injured and stuck in a tunnel. She didn’t go peacefully either, taking out a host of Aliens in her explosion choosing to die a warrior’s death.
"You have a strong heart. No fear. But stupid! Ignorant like a child!"
In Avatar, Neytiri will be forever remembered as the consummate female warrior. She was a loner as much as she was a leader, hunting without fear, fighting without fear and apologetically fierce through and through. When the humans came to the Navi world to wreak havoc, Neytiri and her race fought them with reckless abandon with the help of her human lover Jake Sully. It was Jake that brought about the badass in Neytiri when his life was threatened by a Colonel aboard a mechanized giant who approached his pod in order to destroy it (Jake is paralyzed waist down). Neytiri came at the Colonel without care for her life and managed to save Jake through heart and superior archery.
In Avatar there are more than a few badass warriors in every shot but the most memorable Navi was Neytiri, she was feminine, fierce and deadly. All the combination necessary for a Zoe Saldana driven character.
There were many, many femme fatales in Frank Miller's Sin City, but none stood out more than a tiny katana wielding mute by the name of Miho (Devon Aoki). We can all remember Clive Owen's monologue when Miho would drop in, dispatch a few killers, chop off some heads and rescue him from his demise. Deadly little Miho shone brightly in an already bright room of stars in that awesome piece of cinema adapted from the graphic novel.
For those of you who follow Samurai lore, Miho owes a life to Dwight McCarthy and has inwardly sworn to be his retainer - serving as his angel of death whenever he needs her. The character portrayal by Devon Aoki is flawless as is all of her roles of this same manner and she is one of the badass femmes that we all can agree on.
"Get away from her YOU BITCH!"
There's no argument as to who the most badass femme fatale of any Sci-Fi movie is. You can go on and on about some chick who went down in a blaze of glory or some chick who did one single solitary act of bravery but let's be serious here. Ellen Ripley managed to escape a planted Alien aboard her ship and freeze herself for years in order to make it back to earth (badass). Then she went on to join a host of Space Marines with no military training, take up not one but several big-ass guns and wipe out an entire Alien brood whilst playing adopted mommy to a homeless girl. If that isn't badass enough for you I can continue, Ripley found love, thwarted an evil corporation trying to plant face-hugging Aliens on human hosts, took an egg into her body and suicided in order to kill it (badass). Ripley IS the definition of feminine strength unleashed.
When you think badass and Space Marine, you will think of Ripley. The woman started out as a confident scientist, was forced into the worst of situations and was able to make it out of there a winner. While the Predators continuously kick the Alien's asses from planet to planet, the Alien race is probably more afraid of Ripley. She killed a queen, survived four sequels and she IS the queen of the big screen Sci-Fi badasses.
"I was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee!"
What a resume on this lady, and it is a wonder why she isn't in many of these so-called lists but that goes to show the knowledge of the people who have made other lists (snark!) Padme ruled an entire kingdom at age 11, she saw death, wars and her man go from a whiny little bitch into the darkest, most evil Sith lord in the galaxy. While all of that was going on this little lady managed to trade shots with droids, stand her ground against a corrupt senate and fight in an arena! Yes, she took on creatures that would snap men in half easily all while being handcuffed and left to her inner strength and legendary boyfriend.
To top off her prowess as a Sci-Fi badass, Padme went ahead and gave birth to twins that would later on save the galaxy from sure destruction. A mother, a wife to Darth Vader, diplomat, and an ace with a Naboo pistol, Padme Skywalker is one of Sci-Fi's most dynamically badass women.

#6 - Miho (Sin City) - Devon Aoki

Sure River may look like a sweet innocent girl who would faint at the first sign of danger, but in reality this little girl wipes out armies by her superior intelligence and martial arts skill. River Tam was a trained warrior that was rescued from her handlers similar to La Femme Nikita. Her brain and physical prowess is inhuman so if you're looking for a one on one, this isn't the woman to try. Add in the fact that River has a bit of an unstable mental thing going on and you cannot tell where she's coming from at any time.

Milla Jovovich's Alice is the best out of her ultra femme fatale personalities that she has been trying to make stick throughout the years. Alice is an experimental super woman developed by the Umbrellla Corporation and just like every other company forged killer, she's pretty much a goddess of war.

The first scene you remember of the Matrix was of a tall, slender, sexy glass of water cruising to a phone booth before picking up the receiver and placing her hand on the glass. She is the primary mentor to the movie's star and eventually his immortal lover. Trinity is the original dual pistol weilding, leather clad, slicked back hair and aloof attitude holding femme fatale before Milla Jovovich, and Angelina Jolie adopted the look. Trinity brought the firepower to any situation and was a die-hard soldier for humanity even up until it cost her her life.
While Neo became god-like in his power over the Matrix, Trinity was a regular gal who managed to do extraordinary things. How more badass can you be when you can dodge bullets, throw black belt level Kung Fu and pilot a vessel without issue? Ya I know the data was uploaded to her but she still managed to be elite, and that's what makes her so badass.

While men are normally lauded as badasses for racking up a crazy body count, women are respected for their incredible hardiness when the world has turned upside down. Sarah Connor was a sweet girl who had a situation fall on her lap and force her to mother a legend and defend his life from a superior technology. Sounds easy right? Well throw in the fact that the robots looking to kill her and her son are damn near indestructible and the fact that she has to use kinetic weapons to fight them with no military training and... ya she's some kind of wonderful.
When Sarah was locked away in a mental clinic, she didn't lay down and cry into her pillow, she hit the push-ups, situps and pull ups and became a hardcore warrior. The difference between her physique and mental strength between the first two Terminators is night and day, and while she may be mentally unstable due to her drugged up stint in the psycho ward, when it comes time to dance with the bad guys Miss Connor is Ginger Rogers on the stage.
