Hollywood’s Top 10 Fabulous and Fearless Females

There is no shortage of hot blonds with big boobs and no brains in Hollywood. There is no shortage of women who will do whatever it takes to get and sustain their fifteen minutes of fame; no matter who they have to pretend to be. This article isn’t about those women. There are enough articles out there that sort of pandering ‘talent’. This article is about the women in Hollywood that are sadly in the minority – the women who won’t sacrifice their values to make their star rise higher. Some of them are world famous. Some of them have gone mostly unnoticed. None of them are willing to change who they are to appeal to a wider audience. They are strong, beautiful and above all else – fearless. So, without further ado, “Hollywood’s Top 10 Fabulous and Fearless Females”.
Mila Kunis
10: Mila Kunis
You probably know Mila best as shallow, materialistic Jackie Burkhart on “That 70′s Show” but it is her turn as Lily in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” that has earned her a place on this list. She lost an incredible amount of weight to play the role and was actually honest about how that made her feel about her body. Body issues are something every woman faces, and I commend her for speaking honestly about hers. Mila has also shied away from much of the behavior that earns many of her contemporaries a permanent place in the tabloids. In fact, earlier this year when she parted ways with longtime boyfriend, Macaulay Culkin, many people were surprised to learn they had even been together. Consider some of the other actresses in her age bracket. You can probably list at least two (and often more) celebrities they’ve been romantically linked to. Mila is more of a mystery and I hope she remains that way as her career continues to soar.

Fairuza Balk
09: Fairuza Balk
Fairuza Balk never really broke into the mainstream but one has to imagine that’s just fine with her. She is a creative soul; dabbling in music, writing and many other creative ventures outside of the acting sphere. What I love about Fairuza is that she is truly unique. Although her true breakout role was in “The Craft”, her performance as Stacey in “American History X” is often seen as one of her best roles. The most beautiful thing about Fairuza is that she doesn’t subscribe to the ‘boobs over content’ rule many Hollywood actresses feel they must conform to. She stays true to that creative soul and carves out the path that she wants to follow – not the path others want her to.
Michelle Rodriguez
08: Michelle Rodriguez
Michelle Rodriguez is a tough, gutsy girl who makes no apologies for being an ass-kicker. Sure she gets herself into trouble sometimes and her interviews can be a little hard to understand, but she always says what’s on her mind. She proves that being sexy doesn’t necessarily require a pout and a lot of eye lash batting. Michelle doesn’t let anyone push her around and doesn’t need a man to fight her battles for her. She takes roles that celebrate the masculine side of women while still ultimately remaining feminine and alluring.
Lady Gaga
07: Lady Gaga
I’m sure some of you are rolling your eyes over this one, but love her or hate her, Lady Gaga isn’t afraid to take chances. Lady Gaga uses fashion in a way few female celebrities ever have. While wearing outrageous clothes is really nothing new, Gaga takes it to a whole new level. More than that though, she is a woman that isn’t afraid to speak her mind; voicing her opinion on world events and speaking out for gay rights. Gaga is also ready and willing to donate money to charities that need her support or take a stand against what she feels is unfair. She spoke out about the controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in the armed forces by showing up at a red carpet event with soldiers who had been kicked out of the army under the law. It not only got Gaga attention, but it also put a human face on the controversial law which was eventually repealed.
Rose McGowan
06: Rose McGowan
Rose isn’t afraid to be sexy, sensual, a little girlie and a lot tough. She plays strong, confident women almost exclusively and that’s the way she likes it. Perhaps it’s because she’s so strong and confident herself. Amy Blue (Doom Generation), Tatum (Scream), Courtney (Jawbreaker), Cherry (Planet Terror) and Pam (Death Proof) are among just among a few of the strong female characters she has portrayed. This woman is a firecracker – tiny but with enough sparks to take out an entire city.
Dita Von Teese
05: Dita Von Teese
Dita Von Teese is the definition of old Hollywood glamor for a new generation. Mostly known as a racy burlesque performer, Dita is fearless because she has dared to be different in an industry that doesn’t often reward such a thing. Instead of taking the usual route of being trashy and skanky, Dita puts the class back into taking your clothes off on stage. That is definitely no easy feat. She takes being unique to a whole new level without relying on Lady Gaga style shock tactics.
Michelle Williams
04: Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams is without a question my favorite young actress working in Hollywood today. I love her for one simple reason – she recognizes that acting is a craft and isn’t driven by the dollar sign attached to a project. She has the beauty (and the body) to be an A-list screen siren, but instead, she takes smaller projects that are driven by a story. Could she land a spot in a big budget, explosion laden, tits and ass project? Yes. She could. Would she? No. Her artistic integrity is paramount to her and that is what makes her so appealing. This woman is destined to win a Best Actress Academy Award someday. Mark my words – and she’ll do it without pandering to the masses.
P!nk
03: P!nk
They don’t come much more fearless than Pink. This woman is who she could care less if you don’t like her. If you ask her opinion about something, she’ll give it to you and make no apologies if it offends you. She’s tough as nails but, unlike Michele Rodriguez, wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s sensitive and can show a softer side, but never enough that you forget that strength in her runs deep. She is an open book. There is no pretense. She also happens to be one of the few pop stars in the world that can dance across genres from pop to rock to punk and nail it at every turn. Her career has had her ups and downs as her personal life but she doesn’t back down from a challenge and always fights to get back on top.
Drew Barrymore
02: Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore might seem like an odd choice for this list; especially considering I’ve ranked her so high on that list. Drew is an inspiration to young women everywhere. Her career was all but over, but she fought her way back to the top. She might not make the most artistically significant movies, but that’s just not what she’s about. Instead of continuing; here are a few of my favorite quotes from Drew that I feel more than show exactly how fearless she is.
  • “There’s something liberating about not pretending. Dare to embarrass yourself. Risk.”
  • “I’d rather be a few pounds heavier and enjoy life than be worried all the time.”
  • “My whole life, I’ve wanted to feel comfortable in my skin. It’s the most liberating thing in the world.”
  • “We’re just girls being silly and having fun, girls are affectionate with each other. We don’t have that hang up of what it’s gonna look like or what people are gonna think. I think it’s hysterical.”
Perhaps what I like most about Drew is that she isn’t ruled by the typical ‘thin-is-in’ slogan so many women in Hollywood live by. She has been heavier. She has been thinner and she always gives off the impression that she’s happy with who she is either way. She overcame a lot at a young age, but doesn’t shy away from talking about it. She accepts that as not only a part of who she was, but also part of who she is. In addition to that, she isn’t afraid to be cute and girlie. Her strength is evident. She doesn’t need the tough girl act to prove that.
Drew speaks her mind and stands up for what she believes in. She makes films that she would want to see, even if that means taking the occasional pay cut (as she did – a drastic one, in fact – for “Donnie Darko”). When she posed for Playboy, she owned it. She wasn’t scared of what people would think or how she would be perceived. Very few women can show the strength, beauty and wisdom Drew does while still being sexy and absolutely adorable. She is Drew Barrymore – unequivocally.
Angelina Jolie
01: Angelina Jolie
When I decided to write an article about the most fearless women in Hollywood, I had some trouble coming up with my final list. There are a lot of women who are choosing to beat out their own path instead of following the one that’s laid out for them. I knew Angelina would be number one on this list, though, because although a lot of words can be used to describe Angelina, fearless is definitely the most fitting. In her career and in her personal life, this is a woman who takes chances. From big budget action films like “Tomb Raider”, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and “Wanted” to small budget, character driven movies like “Gia”, “Girl, Interrupted”, “Changeling” and the incredible “A Mighty Heart”, she has a diverse career that allows her to show that a woman can play any type of role.
Angelina has gotten a lot of bad press over the years – particularly after her relationship with Brad Pitt evidently ended his marriage to Jennifer Aniston – but through it all Angelina has remained poised and focused. Routinely visiting areas of the world few celebrities would dare go, Angelina is dedicated to giving back. She is a woman that appreciates what she has been blessed with and is willing to share it with those who need it. She doesn’t just sign checks. She gets involved. Above all else, though, Angelina lets her freak flag fly. No one could ever accuse this woman of being boring. She is unusual and she owns that. When all is said and done, there are few women in the world, let alone Hollywood that have the guts and the drive that Angelina Jolie has.
