Tea Time Around The World

An estate owned by descendants of the 19th century British aristocrat for whom Earl Grey tea was named is turning history on its head by selling English tea to China. The Tregothnan estate in the southwestern English county of Cornwall started selling tea from its tiny plantation in 2005 and last year produced about 10 tons of tea and infusions. Current owners (and residents) of Tregothnan, Evelyn and Katharine Boscawen think they've found a niche to exploit in exporting English tea to China and India. The long history of immersing tea leaves in hot water for a refreshing drink is not lost on the Boscawens. By the Victorian Era, taking tea had become a regular ritual at almost every level of society from elaborate afternoon tea for the rich in country houses to tea and gruel for the working poor as depicted by Charles Dickens.Tregothnan has projected 2013 sales to be $3.14 million, a drop in the proverbial bucket compared to the world's largest black tea exporter, Kenya, predicting $1.33 billion in sales for 2013. -- Paula Nelson ( 26 photos total)

Carnival 2013 In CoolPix

Pre-Lenten celebrations around the globe, including Carnival and Mardi Gras, wrapped up yesterday before the marking of Ash Wednesday today. Historians say the tradition dates back to Roman times, when the newly converted Christians retained vestiges of their pagan festival, "Lupercalia," as a period of celebration before the penance during the 40 days of Lent. -- Lloyd Young ( 46 photos total)

The sculpture of the giant naughty pup leaving its golden mark on the building is made of 52 digitally cut pieces of fiber glass and composite materials that were assembled on-site. Once the structure was intact, Jackson entered the sizable sculpture with a bucket of yellow paint to be splattered on the wall. Now, the mechanized sculpture squirts a stream of yellow paint on its own. It is one of Jackson's many "painting machines" that excretes pigments in an unusually creative fashion. 04 more images after the break...

Funny Trees Project

Painting eyes, faces and grimaces on the trees, by ornamenting and dressing them we emphasize our close and unique connection with nature.

"The Tree Project" is an ongoing art project since 2006 inspired by the beauty and the decay of nature. We are constantly in search of new forms of expressions and we love to play with unusual surfaces and locations. In the Tree Project we visualize the atmosphere of the moment, the usually hidden spirit and dreams of the trees and the the living nature which surrounds us. By painting eyes, faces and grimaces on the trees, by ornamenting and dressing them we emphasize our close and unique connection with nature. Thereby reflecting that trees are exceptional and beautiful living individuals. This stands in contrast to the often destructive and indifferent interaction with the environment of mankind. Please note that we take environmental issues serious: for all tree-paintings shown here we use natural and biodegradable colors that will fade away after a while. 28 more images after the break...

The Atlantic Ocean and The Caribbean Sea at Eleuthera

Eleuthera is one of several islands that lies within the archipelago in The Bahamas, about 80 km east of the capital city Nassau. It is long – about 180 km – and thin - only about 1.6 km wide in places. The light blue waters of the shallow Caribbean Sea on one side of the island stand out in stark contrast to the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean thousands of feet in depth. One of the best places to see this extraordinary juxtaposition is at the Glass Window Bridge.
The Glass Window Bridge is about two miles east of Upper Bogue and joins Gregory Town and Lower Bogue at the narrowest point on the island. It is one of the few places on earth where you can compare the rich blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean on one side of the road and the calm turquoise-green waters of the Exuma Sound (Caribbean Sea) on the other side, separated by a strip of rock just 30 feet wide.

Manhattan of the Desert Shibam — Yemen

The city of Shibam, located in the central-western area of Hadhramaut Governorate, in the Ramlat al-Sab`atayn desert, is best known for its towering mudbrick skyscrapers. This small town of 7000 is packed with around 500 mud houses standing between 5 and 11 stories tall and reaching 100 feet high, all constructed entirely of mud bricks. The bizarre skyline that the high rise buildings bestow upon the city has earned Shibam the moniker "Manhattan of the Desert."
Shibam is often called "the oldest skyscraper city in the world" and is one of the oldest and best examples of urban planning based on the principle of vertical construction. Its plan is trapezoidal, almost rectangular; and it is enclosed by earthen walls within which a block of dwellings, also built from earth, have been laid out on an orthogonal grid. Shibam was founded in the 3rd century AD, but most of the houses you see here dates only to the 16th century, following a devastating flood of which Shibam was the victim in 1532-33. However, some older houses and large buildings still remain from the first centuries of Islam, such as the Friday Mosque, built in 904, and the castle, built in 1220.

In general the windowless lower floors are used for grain storage, with areas for domestic use above and those for family and leisure above that. The main room on the second floor is used by men for socializing. It often has wonderful carved plasterwork and freestanding decorated wooden columns supporting the ceiling, while women's areas are found higher, usually on the third or fourth floor. The highest rooms are for communal use by the whole family, and on the upper levels there are often bridges and doors connecting the houses. These are a defensive feature, but also a practical one – especially for old people who find it difficult to walk up and down the interminable staircases. 08 more images after the break...

The Weird Sport of Goose Pulling

Goose pulling is an old sport originally played in parts of the Netherlands, Belgium, England and North America from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The sport involves a goose that is hung by its legs from a pole or rope that is stretched across a road. A man riding on horseback at a full gallop would attempt to grab the bird by the neck in order to pull the head off. Whoever makes off with the head is declared winner and becomes the noble hero of the day. Goose pulling is still practiced today, in parts of Belgium and in Grevenbicht in the Netherlands as part of Shrove Tuesday and in some towns in Germany as part of the Shrove Monday celebrations.
During the old days a live goose was used. To make the sport challenging, the goose's neck was generously oiled to make it difficult to retain a grip on it, and the bird's constant fluttering and flailing made it difficult to target it in the first place. Sometimes "a nigger” with a long whip in hand was stationed near the target who would harass the horse as he passed by.

The prizes of a goose-pulling contest were trivial – often the dead bird itself, other times contributions from the audience or rounds of drinks. The main draw of such contests for the spectators was the betting on the competitors, sometimes for money or more often for alcoholic drinks.
Today, instead of live geese, dead ones are used, but that doesn’t make the sport any less brutal. Even during the old days when animal brutality were common, goose pulling was often frowned upon and sometimes compared to the barbarous practice of bull-fighting. 10 more images after the break...

10 Countries With Female Soldiers

There have been some very famous female warriors in history, such as Boudicca; who led a fierce resistance to Roman rule in England, The Trung Sisters; who led an all-female army against Chinese occupation of Vietnam in the 1st century AD, St Joan of Arc; who led the entire forces of France against the English at age 17 in the 15th Century and Septima Zenobia; who ruled Syria from 250 to 275 AD and was the scourge of Rome.
Therefore, it seems strange that it took modern armies so long to officially allow females to serve in combat alongside their male counterparts. Thanks to various cultural and political movements of the 20th century, women now play crucial roles in the armed forces of many nations. Because of this cultural shift, military apparel has infiltrated everyday fashion such as hats, scarves, and boots. Evidence for this can be seen by running off a quick search for ‘military hat’ or ‘aviator sunglasses’, of which there seems to be a never-ending supply.
The army is also a popular theme for student fancy dress nights such as this one in Glamorgan where female patrons can let their hair down and dress like G.I. Jane. This penchant for military dressing up also extends to paint-balling wherein female participation has grown over recent years. This can again be accredited to a shift in popular culture due to TV shows that feature such activity, particularly The Big Bang Theory and Peep Show. Fortunately [unlike the army] in this event all of the equipment is real apart from the guns and bullets!
To further this celebration of female fighters in the forces, here follow ten interesting facts about countries that recognise the value and valour of women in the armed forces.
1)      The United States of America
Women have served in the US Military since 1775 but their early roles consisted of support roles such as nurses, seamstresses, cooks and cleaners; roles which were not included amongst uniformed personnel until relatively recently ( in the 20th Century). However, females now serve in 91% of US Army occupations and account for 14% of the active Army. Furthermore, assignment policy changes introduced in 2012 mean that a further 14 000 positions closer to the frontline are now available to women.

The Most Beautiful Italian Women

This is the list of the most beautiful Italian women ever. Maybe someone will disagree with this list but still I think that it’s a hard work to create a perfect one.
Giada Pamela De Laurentiis
Giada Pamela De Laurentiis  is an Italian American chef, writer, television personality, and the current host of the Food Network programs Everyday Italian, Behind the Bash, Giada’s Weekend Getaways, Giada in Paradise, and Giada at Home. giada de laurentiis
Her cooking program, Everyday Italian, has been broadcast on Food Network since 2003. On her Chefography (a Food Network biography program), she admitted that she never wanted to be in her “family business” of show business. She felt very uncomfortable in front of the camera when she first began hosting Everyday Italian, but has since become more relaxed and open on air. When the program first aired, Food Network received emails accusing the network of hiring a model or actress pretending to cook instead of a real chef.

While Ant-Man will be getting his own solo movie before the release of the sequel to billion dollar box office hit, Marvel's The Avengers, it would be more than a little disappointing if he was the only new addition to the roster of Earth's Mightiest Heroes! So, why not take the opportunity to add one of Marvel's best female character's to the team? Carol Danvers (who now goes by the title of Captain Marvel, rather than Ms. Marvel) is a great character, and while a solo movie has some potential, introducing her in the follow-up to Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble seems like a sensible decision. So, who should play her? Well, here are my top five choices...

Top 100 All Time Porn Stars Girls

Top 100 All Time Porn Stars Girls
Porn is a competitive sport. It seems like the simplest of things—get naked, turn the camera on, have sex. But in reality, so much more goes into it. Which is why pornstars seem to always be jockeying for position in the eyes of porn aficionados. See, it's not enough for a pornstar to have a year where they pump out 15 high quality scenes. They have to do it over and over and over again, year after year. It's almost like the rap game. Out of sight, out of mind. And you always need to keep reinventing yourself. If you don't, your star fades.

Paris Catacombs

Paris Catacombs
Explore the ancient underground tomb that house over 6 million Parisian bodies — The Catacombs of Paris or Catacombes de Paris are an underground ossuary in Paris, France. Located south of the former city gate (the "Barrière d'Enfer" at today's Place Denfert-Rochereau), the ossuary holds the remains of about six million people and fills a renovated section of caverns and tunnels that are the remains of Paris's stone mines. Opened in the late 18th century, the underground cemetery became a tourist attraction on a small scale from the early 19th century, and has been open to the public on a regular basis from 1874. Following an incident of vandalism, they were closed to the public in September 2009 and reopened 19 December of the same year.
The official name for the catacombs is l'Ossuaire Municipal. Although this cemetery covers only a small section of underground tunnels comprising "les carrières de Paris" ("the quarries of Paris"), Parisians today often refer to the entire tunnel network as "the catacombs". 14 more images after the break...

The work of French artist Fabien Mérelle involves creative combinations of dreams, experiences, and his early childhood imagination. He blurs the line between reality and fiction and his bio states: "Following the unrolling of a dream, playing with the free association of shapes and ideas, he seems to say that everything is transforming, metamorphing, opening itself to the most diverse interpretations."
Mérelle's complex works are small and he pays close attention to detail, two qualities that can be seen in this particular work, entitled Pentateuque. The piece is a whimsical sculpture that depicts a man, balancing the weight of an elephant on his back. It is made out of resin, paint, hair and fabric, and stands only 30 x 27 x 12 inches. The three dimensional form is a replica of the artist's original Pentateuch 2010 ink drawing, both of which visually interpret the phrase "carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders." Pentateuque was recently exhibited at the 2013 Art Stage Singapore international art fair, which took place at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore earlier this month. 06 more images after the break...
