Tony Scott, director of Top Gun, shocked the world a week ago when he left behind a wife, two children and a brilliant career, by throwing himself off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles. Currently, there are no known reasons for his gesture. 2. Clark Gable
King of Hollywood between 1931 and 1953, Clark Gable lived his life to the fullest… The star fell into depression after the death of his third wife, actress Carol Lombard, who disappeared in a plane crash in 1942. It seems Gable was so affected by the loss of his wife that he tried to take his own life in a very violent way: Attempted suicide using a high-powered motorbike. He didn’t succeeded, and after a while he got married again.
3. Judy Garland
The protagonist of The Wizard of Oz began to be dependent on barbiturates and amphetamines since adolescence, when, due to a chaotic and very busy program of work was “served”, by those for whom she worked – in most studios MGM – with “aid” to give her energy and assure her rest. Although she was never considered a beautiful woman, her incredible voice, talent and perseverance brought her the success she was always dreaming of.
Unfortunately her life was tormented by depression, which forced her to resort to suicidal attempts. In 1947, she had a severe nervous breakdown during the filming of The Pirate, after which she cut her wrists. Fortunately she was saved and subsequently hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic. At age of 47, with a chaotic personal and professional life, she died from an overdose of antidepressants and sedatives.
4. Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Taylor suffered from various diseases throughout her life – which were getting worse every time she had personal problems – and survived a total of 20 major operations. She was hospitalized several times for alcoholism and addiction. A suicide attempt took place at the beginning of her adulterous relationship with Richard Burton. Devastated by the breakup with Richard Burton – which she he called him, despite other six marriages, the love of her life – she took an excessive dose of sleeping pills.
5. Frank Sinatra
The numerous suicide attempts of Frank Sinatra were caused by the fights and separation between him and Ava Gardner, his second wife, which was according to Frankie the love of his life. Two of the attempts, both occurring in 1953 were close to curb his thread of life, but he was saved at the last minute.
The tumultuous love story with Ava affected his confidence and health, so after six years of marriage, Frank agreed to divorce her. Frank Sinatra died in 1998 at the age of 82, following a heart attack.
6. Halle Berry
After going though a painful divorce with David Justice, Halle Berry become so depressed that she actually attempted to end her life with carbon monoxide poisoning. She recalls for People magazine: “I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming when I had an image of my mother finding me.”
7. Brigitte Bardot
Brigitte Bardot’s firs suicide attempt took place back when the future actress was just 18 years old and the reason was the refusal of her parents to let her marry director Roger Vadim. She survived the attempt and eventually got married with Roger Vadim, only to divorce him five years later.
8. Drew Barrymore
Famous since an early age, Drew Barrymore had a troubled childhood marked by drug and alcohol abuse. She was admitted to rehab when she was only 14 years, but because she tried to take her life immediately after she left the clinic, she was brought back inside a rehabilitation institution.
The treatment she received afterwards, and the time spent with singer David Crosby and his wife finally cured Drew Barrymore. She never thought of suicide ever again.
9. Owen Wilson
Owen Wilson was found almost dead, covered in blood in his home on 26 August 2007 but finally reanimated after being rushed to the hospital. After the incident Owen continued his anti depression treatment but he backed out from filming the Trophic Thunder movie. According to major tabloids, the reason for Owen Wilson suicidal attempt was the break with actress Kate Hudson, which happened a year back.
